Referring to my letter of the 7th. May, I am directed to inform you that His Excellency the Governor is prepared to make recommendations on the following lines to the Secretary of State for the blonies regarding the emoluments of the Civil Service:-

that a grant of 10% on salary be made to
married officers, other than officers holding
staff appointments, who draw sterling salaries or dollar salaries with exchange compensation?
that a similar grant be unde to Sisters in the Medical Pepartment:
that a similar grant be made to married
officers who draw dollar salaries, without
exchange compensation, of over 1,200 a year:
that a similar grant be made, to all officers,
whether married or unmarried, who draw 31,200
a year or less:
that the grant be reckoned upon the amount of
salary actually drawn. An officer on a
sterling salary would for instance, while
on duty in the Colony, receive 10% upon the
sum in dollars which is paid to him monthly by way of salary. The same officer, when on leave in a country having a gold standard,
would receive 10% in sterling upon his
sterling salary:
The Honourable
Mr. H. E. Pollock, K.C.
